Wildcats surprise Hawks

Ashton Bell and Melissa Hunt both scored for the Westman Wildcats on Sunday as they upset the Pembina Valley Hawks 2-0 in the Manitoba Female Midget Hockey League in Hartney.

Megan Robertson assisted on both markers for Westman (13-6-5), while Sky Brown made 21 saves for the shutout. Taylor Reimer made 19 saves for the league-leading Hawks (15-4-6).

On Saturday, the Yellowhead Chiefs beat the Eastman Selects 2-0 in Shoal Lake. Sam Geekie and Jalin Adams scored for the Chiefs (13-11-1), while Jordyn Tibbatts and Tashel Scantlebury assisted on both goals. McKenna Claeys made eight saves for the shutout.

McKenna Wild made 49 saves for Eastman (0-21-5).

In a Saturday exhibition game, Jaycee Magwood scored and set up Robertson’s goal as the Wildcats lost an exhibition game 5-2 to the St. Mary’s Academy Flames in Hartney.
