Karissa Kirkup scored twice as the Westman Wildcats opened the Mac’s Midget AAA hockey tournament in Calgary with a 6-1 win over British Columbia’s Thompson-Okanagan Rockets on Wednesday.
Teagan Pringle, Jossa Danis, Jaycee Magwood and Samantha Dyck also scored for the Wildcats, who got a 13-save performance from Kristen Campbell.
The Wildcats were 1-for-7 on the power play and killed off nine of the Rockets’ 10 opportunities with the man-advantage.
Westman’s next game is today against the Melville (Sask.) Prairie Fire.
