Regina’s Shawn Wilyman won the Riding Mountain Triathlon’s Olympic distance event on Saturday at Wasagaming.
Wilyman completed the 1.2-kilometre swim, 40-km bicycle and 10-km run with a time of two hours, three minutes, one second. Brandon’s Mike Nichol was the top Westman racer, placing 25th overall in 2:37:53.
Kim Hodges of Winnipeg was the top female finisher in 2:28:40, with Brandon’s Sheila Crane fourth overall at 2:45:15.
In the sprint triathlon (750-metre swim, 20-km bike, 5-km run), Winnipegger Corey Arsenault topped the podium with a time of 1:05:10, beating Virden’s Drew Cochrane by only 20 seconds.
Cherrie Fournier of Winnipeg was the fastest woman, clocking a time of 1:17:13, with Martine McGregor of Brandon placing fourth among women at 1:22:07.
Winnipeg’s George Kroupa led the way in the sprint duathlon (2.5-km run, 20-km bike, 5-km run) in 1:10:21, with Brandon’s John Kelleher second at 1:13:34. Jocelyn Legault-Clark of Brandon paced the women in 1:18:59.
The leader of the try-a-tri (.3-km swim, 10-km bike, 3-km run) was Rebekah Sass at 42 minutes 56 seconds. Jett Sinclair was the top finisher among men in 45:13.
