Wolf Pack finish third

The Prairie Wolf Pack split their games on the weekend and finished in third place at the under-19 Canadian Rugby Championship in Edmonton.

The squad, which is captained by Minnedosa’s Thomas Roche and also features Minnedosa’s Jason Galbraith, dealt with showers and a waterlogged field in its tournament finale, which the Wolf Pack lost 30-0 to the champion B.C. Bears. The Wolf Pack finished the round-robin event 2-2. B.C. went 4-0.

On Saturday, the Wolf Pack exploded for 34 points in the second half to beat the Atlantic Rock 39-5. Roche and John Froggatt from Winnipeg both scored second-half tries.

Brandon’s Brian Yon, one of the coaches, was pleased with the performance of his team during the five-day tournament.

“The coaching staff’s happy with the way things went,” he said. “Thomas had an exceptional tournament. He was one of our best players and Jason had a solid tournament as well.”
