Jean-Michel Naud’s hat trick lifted the Waywayseecappo Wolverines to a 5-4 win over the Neepawa Natives on Sunday, their first victory of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League season.
Zane Morin and David Haaf also scored for the Wolverines (1-3-1). Pilot Mound’s Brett Pinkerton had three helpers.
Derrick Brooks and Brandon’s Brayden Cuthbert replied with a goal and an assist each for the host Natives (1-3-0). MacGregor’s Landon Thomson also scored for Neepawa while Brandonite Clayton Heinrichs added an assist.
Corey Koop stopped 40 shots in the Natives’ net, while Cory Simons made 36 saves for the Wolverines.
In Sunday’s other games, it was: OCN Blizzard 6, Portage Terriers 1; and Winnipeg Blues 5, Steinbach Pistons 4.
On Saturday, it was: Swan Valley Stampeders 4, Wolverines 3; Blues 7, Virden Oil Capitals 1; Winkler Flyers 6, Selkirk Steelers 5; and Pistons 4, Blizzard 1.
Blizzard 6 Terriers 1
At Portage, Thomas Ward-Cardinal and Wilson Dumais both had two goals and two assists to lead the Blizzard (5-1-0). Brandon’s Josh Elmes added an assist. Matt Glowa replied for Portage (3-1-0).
Blues 5 Pistons 4
At Winnipeg, Jake Heisinger, Jordan Anderson and Paul Stoykewych all had two-point nights for the Blues (5-0-0). Graham McBain netted a pair of goals for Steinbach (2-3-0).
Stampeders 4 Wolverines 3
At Waywayseecappo, Dylan Reimer assisted on two goals for the Stampeders (1-2-0). Jeff Bartel, Brayden MacDonald, Max Flanagan and Bo Clinton scored for Swan Valley. Brett Lafond scored twice for the Wolverines, who got their other goal from Pinkerton.
Blues 7 Oil Capitals 1
At Virden, Daniel Fainman scored twice, while Heisinger and Jared Morris each had a goal and two assists for the Blues. Kolby Woods replied for the Oil Capitals (2-1-2).
Flyers 6 Steelers 5
At Winkler, Tristan Keck scored twice for the Flyers (1-3-1), while Tyler Swerdyliak had a goal and three assists. Brandonite Tanner Jago assisted on two goals, including Dallas Jorgenson’s winner. Ian Humphreys had three assists for the Steelers (2-2-1).
Pistons 4 Blizzard 1
At The Pas, Denis Bosc paced the Pistons with two goals and an assist. Garick Gray replied for the Blizzard.
