Wolverines shut out by Eagles in opener

The Westman Wolverines were roughed up in their Manitoba Major Football League home opener 35-0 by the East Side Eagles on Saturday at Vincent Massey High School.

Wolverine quarterback Seth Hume completed 17 of 36 passes for 199 yards and was picked off three times as both squads came out of the game with 1-1 records.

James Johnson ran 11 times for 54 yards and also caught a pass for 15 yards for Westman. Jordan Paraschuk caught four balls for 79 yards, while Jared Spearing had four catches for 60 yards.

Adam McClelland had three tackles and 1 1/2 sacks for the Wolverines, while Cole Easton had four tackles and a half sack. Ace Brown and Brendon Brydges both picked off Eagle passes, with Brydges adding two tackles.

The Wolverines hit the road next weekend, playing the Greendell Falcons on Saturday.
