Yellowhead unbeaten at Midget AAA tourney

The Yellowhead Chiefs finished the Southwest Cougars’ Midget AAA pre-season tournament in Souris with a perfect 3-0 record.

The Chiefs wrapped up the five-day event on Sunday with a 3-1 win over the Interlake Lightning and a 4-2 victory over the Parkland Rangers. Ashton Anderson scored twice and Travis Sanheim added another for Yellowhead against Interlake. Brock Paddock, Kyle Wahoski, Josh Martin and Tyler Dereniwski scored against Parkland.

Meanwhile, the Brandon Wheat Kings went 2-1 after beating Interlake 5-2 on Sunday. Jordan Kaspick scored twice with Brandon Switzer, Ty Coulter and Jordan Stallard adding singles.

The host Cougars won their finale 3-1 over the NorMan Northstars on Saturday. Cameron Whyte, Michael Fortin and Sheldon Kowalchuk all scored for Southwest, which went 1-2 at the tournament.
