The under-19 Wolf Pack men’s rugby program has a new head coach, and he comes from Westman.
Brian Yon, who’s from Brandon and teaches in Souris, has been promoted from assistant coach to head coach of the Wolf Pack, which is made up of players from Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta. The job will present some challenges for Yon to work with three different provinces to recruit players and figure out timetables for them to get together, but he’s looking forward to the opportunity.
“I’m extremely excited,” he said. “It’s been a privilege to be a part of the Wolf Pack program for the last three seasons. It’s a first-class club and we want to make sure that we give these kids all the opportunities we can to get to the national program. The Wolf Pack is a part of that pathway to the national program, so we want to continue to forge forward and give kids opportunities to play for their country.”
The U19 Wolf Pack team competes in the Canadian Rugby Championship. This year, the Wolf Pack finished second in the national competition, falling to British Columbia in the final.
