Wallaby flanker David Pocock out for up to 9 months after left knee reconstruction

BRISBANE, Australia - Australia and ACT Brumbies flanker David Pocock has undergone surgery to repair the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee and could be on the sidelines for up to nine months.

Pocock issued a statement Friday which confirmed he'll miss the three-test British and Irish Lions series beginning in Australia in late June.

He injured his knee in the Brumbies' win over New South Wales in a Super 15 rugby match last weekend. The two-hour operation was completed Thursday night in Brisbane.

Pocock, who captained the Wallabies for part of last year, said "now I need to rest up and get myself ready to start the rehabilitation process ... the key thing is that I'm patient and don't try to rush back."
