Justin Morrow scores the 74th minute, Earthquakes rally to tie Crew 1-1

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Justin Morrow scored in the 74th minute to pull the San Jose Earthquakes even with the Columbus Crew in a 1-1 tie Saturday.

Morrow scored for the first time since May 2, firing a rising strike from 18 yards that landed in the upper right corner. Unmarked at the left of the box, he scored off a pass from Ramiro Corrales.

"It was a breakdown where we were outnumbered on one side," Crew goalkeeper Andy Gruenebaum said. "They made us pay for it. It was a good strike. We have to do better job from the midfield on."

The goal was no accident according to Morrow, who made an overlapping run from his defensive position.

"My coaches really stressed that I go forward," he said. "They know I'm an offensive player and can help I can help the team going forward."

The Crew (1-1-1) took the lead in the 68th minute when Brazilian defender Glauber scored his first goal in his third MLS game on a diving header off a corner kick by Federico Higuain.

"I feel really happy because when I score a goal it helps the team," Glauber said.

San Jose coach Frank Yallop naturally had the opposite reaction.

"We proud ourselves on not allowing goals on set plays," he said. "We don't usually do that."

San Jose (1-1-1) almost opened the scoring in the 61st minute, but Chris Wondolowski's shot from inside the penalty area was cleared off the goal line by defender Chad Marshall.

"We played very well tonight," San Jose goalkeeper Jon Busch said. "Out of both of the teams, we had the better chances."
