Captain Pulock named Wheat Kings' player of month

Captain Ryan Pulock has been named the Brandon Wheat Kings Tip Top Tailors Player of the Month for October.

An 18-year-old defenceman from Grandview, Pulock has scored seven goals in 16 games this season and shares the team scoring lead with Alessio Bertaggia at 18 points. Officially, the Western Hockey League considers Pulock to be third in scoring among blue-liners behind Myles Bell of the Kelowna Rockets (nine goals, 23 points) and Morgan Rielly of the Moose Jaw Warriors (four goals, 19 points), although Bell has primarily played forward this season.

A seventh-round pick in the 2009 WHL Bantam Draft, the 18-year-old Pulock is projected as a first-rounder in next year’s National Hockey League Entry Draft.

He’s also been chosen to represent the WHL in the Subway Super Series against a Russian team Nov. 14 in Vancouver.

Having returned home from their West Coast road trip last weekend, the Wheat Kings play their first home date in three weeks on Friday when they host the Moose Jaw Warriors (7:30 p.m., Westman Place).

In other WHL news, the Edmonton Oil Kings made a major move Wednesday, acquiring defenceman David Musil, 19, from the Vancouver Giants for blue-liner Mason Geertsen, 17, and a first-round pick in next year’s bantam draft.
