Pair happy to make move to Brandon

After the initial shock wore off, two of Brandon’s newest Wheat Kings warmed to the idea of their new Western Hockey League.

Defenceman Kade Jensen and goaltender Travis Child were acquired as part of a deal that sent veteran Brandon goaltender Jordan Papirny to the Swift Current Broncos on Tuesday.

"I’d be lying if I said that I wasn’t a little bit shocked," Jensen said. "But it’s always good hearing that you’re going to a good organization. The history they’ve had in Brandon has been nothing but good."

Child, a product of Killam, Alta., who hadn’t been traded before, found out about the deal after practice.

"It’s kind of bittersweet," Child said. "I’m happy with my time in Swift Current but also excited for the new and next step in my career in Brandon."

The pair plan to leave Swift Current at 9 a.m., together in their vehicles to make the 600-km trip to Brandon for tonight’s game.

"They’ve always been a difficult team to play against," Jensen said. "Coming to this team this year, they’re another difficult team. I’m excited. They’ve always had a good organization, they’ve had good coaches, good management and the players they have are good elite hockey players. That just makes me that much more excited to come."
