The Brandon Wheat Kings will have a little more elbow room under the terms of their new lease agreement with the Keystone Centre.
The five-year deal gives the Wheat Kings more space to house their offices and their training facilities.
“We’re probably looking at 15- or 16-hundred square feet for new office space,” said Wheat Kings owner/general manager Kelly McCrimmon, whose team will bear any construction costs required to expand their facilities. “We’ve acquired a little bit of additional space to build onto our dressing room as well our training facility — we’ve been able to acquire a bit of additional space there.”
McCrimmon said the office staff has outgrown their space, while improvements to the players’ amenities are vital to remaining competitive in the WHL in this day and age.
“The industry landscape and where the league is going, I think there’s constant pressure on teams to increase the level of amenities for players, the player experience, the focus on player development,” he said. “You really have to work to be at the front of that process.”
