The Brandon Wheat Kings will be looking for a new European player on Wednesday.

The Western Hockey League club announced Monday that Slovakian right-winger Bruno Mraz, 19, has signed a professional contract back home in his native country and will not be returning for the 2012-13 WHL season.

With Mraz signing a contract, the Wheat Kings have now released him from their protected list and will use the 35th overall selection in Wednesday’s CHL Import Draft. That new player will join 19-year-old Swiss left-winger Alessio Bertaggia to fill the Wheat Kings’ limit of two imports on the roster.

Mraz had two goals and 18 points in 63 games for Brandon last season, while Bertaggia, a member of the Swiss world junior team, was named the Wheat Kings’ rookie of the year after scoring 24 goals and notching 50 points in 64 games.

The QMJHL’s Moncton Wildcats hold the first overall pick in Wednesday’s draft — slated to get underway at 8 a.m. — followed by the WHL’s Prince Albert Raiders and the OHL’s Erie Otters.
