Hefford scores twice for Canada in 4-0 win over Swedes at Four Nations

VIERUMAKI, Finland - Jayna Hefford of Kingston, Ont., scored a pair of goals, including one short-handed, to pace Canada to a 4-0 win over Sweden at the Four Nations Cup on Tuesday.

Hayley Wickenheiser of Shaunavon, Sask., had a goal and an assist, and Colleen Sostorics of Kennedy, Sask., also scored for the Canadians, who take on Finland on Wednesday and the U.S. on Friday.

Kim St. Pierre of Chateauguay, Que., needed only 12 saves for the shutout, while Canada pelted Swedish counterpart Sara Grahn with 42 shots.

The U.S. blanked Finland 4-0 in Mikkeli. The top two teams after the preliminary round will play for gold Saturday in Vierumaki.

The annual Four Nations Cup is the last international tournament for the Canadian women before the 2010 Winter Olympics open Feb. 12 in Vancouver and Whistler, B.C.

Canada won the last two Olympic gold medals, but the U.S. has won back-to-back world championships.
