BREAKING NEWS - CTVGlobemedia to move printing from Brandon

The Brandon Sun

The Brandon Sun and CTVGlobemedia have agreed that the current printing contract for the Globe and Mail newspaper, which ends on February 1, 2010, will be extended until September 30, 2010.

However, the Sun will no longer publish the Manitoba and Saskatchewan edition of the Globe after that, ending a 25-year business relationship.

“We are looking at some tough decisions over the coming weeks and months, but I want to assure everyone that the Brandon Sun newspaper will continue its newsprint and online editions and continue to play an active role in the community,” said publisher Ewan Pow.

“Naturally we are disappointed with this turn of events as the economic benefit from the print contract will not only be lost to the city of Brandon, but to the province as well.”

As a result of CTVGlobemedia’s decision, and in order to offset the lost revenue stream from this printing contract, it is likely that printing and certain other activities at the Brandon Sun plant will be relocated to the paper’s sister facility at the Winnipeg Free Press.

However, the final decision will depend on the findings of an ongoing internal review that is examining all logistical and economic options, Pow said.

The Brandon Sun newspaper has served Westman for 127 years and will still publish seven days a week and maintain its position as the region’s leading source for news, sports and entertainment and the most effective platform for advertisers, said Pow.

The Brandon Sun is owned by FP Canadian Newspapers which also owns the Free Press, Canstar Community News and Rosebud Publications.
