15 indicted in major U.S.-Canada marijuana case
DETROIT - Fifteen people, including six siblings, have been indicted in Detroit in an investigation of a major marijuana operation in Michigan and Canada.
U.S. authorities say more than 450 kilograms of high-quality marijuana and more than $2.5 million have been seized over a few years.
The main figure is Hassan Mohammed Abboud of Toronto.
He was charged this week with conspiracy to import and distribute marijuana and to commit money laundering. Five Detroit-area siblings are also charged.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Wayne Pratt says it's not known when Abboud will appear in federal court. He hasn't been arrested.
The indictment says marijuana and cash moved between the United States and Canada by boat, car and truck. The indictment says a personal submarine was even considered.
