RCMP charge Rocky Mountain House, Alta., man in teen's bear banger death
ROCKY MOUNTAIN HOUSE, Alta. - RCMP have laid charges against a central Alberta man in the death of a teenager who was killed by a device used to scare off bears in the wild.
Police say two teenage boys were sitting in a vehicle outside a house in Rocky Mountain House on Sept. 7 when one of them picked up a device called a bear banger and began playing with it.
The explosive device shot a projectile that struck Tanner Mayer, 16, who later died in hospital of his injuries.
James Rose, 41, has been charged with criminal negligence causing death, manufacturing a prohibited device and careless use of a prohibited device.
Rose is the father of the other teen who was in the vehicle.
He is to appear in provincial court in Rocky Mountain House on Dec. 2.
