Well friends, it’s hard to believe nearly another year has come and gone — with Christmas right around the corner, the countdown to a brand-new season is on. I’ve been admiring the bevy of charming and delightful holiday posts on the ever-popular Pinterest site, and have chosen to share a few of my favorites with you. If you’re looking for a few last-minute holiday decorating ideas to help make your homes merry and bright, you’ll find them below.
It doesn’t matter where you use it, bright and cheerful colour is on this year’s Christmas wish list. Retailers are stocked full of exciting baubles, décor, ribbons and wreaths in rich and vibrant jewel and citrus tones — and the pinners of Pinterest are eating them up. Have some fun this season and add a splash of colour to your spaces, in large or small doses — the extra boost will help warm your spirits from all this chilly weather.
Less is definitely not more when it comes to decorating your tree this year. The more decked-out and ornate, the better. Sprigs of silver or gold, sequined ornaments mixed with metallic garlands, frosted branches. It’s clear pinners are embracing the festive side of decorating and going all-out with their trees. Consider this. If you max out and make the tree your most central focal point, you can go very minimal with the rest of your living or family room … too much of a good thing can go from ‘fantastic’ to ‘flop’ lickity split.
Greenery and Branches
Nestle real (or faux) boughs and wintery garlands amongst planter boxes, wicker baskets, ornamental metal pails, or indoor containers for a fresh and organic touch. You can pair them with pinecones, berry sprigs, decorative baubles, and even larger branches like willow or birch for a more dramatic look. Feather in some LED battery-operated twinkle lights (great for indoor applications where you don’t want to see an unsightly power cord), and your greenery will glow all night long.
Nutty for Candles
One pinner’s take on the traditional hurricane vase/candle combination really caught my eye as being quite a cute and simple idea. Fill a mix of various clear glass vases or bowls about half full with walnuts, chestnuts, almonds, and even macadamia nuts. Place soft white pillar candles in the center of each, and group together for an attractive table centre piece or shimmery mixture on a mantle. Not only will they look great, they’re perfect for sneaking a yummy little morsel now and then.
Letters & Shapes
Sometimes spelling out holiday messages and greetings using unexpected objects or ornaments is a fun and catchy way to deck the halls. One savvy pinner incorporated a wreath as a substitute for the "O", and ended up with a sweet looking little "Noël", spelled out atop a rustic-looking shelf. A piece of chalkboard slate, or the bottom of a wooden toboggan painted with chalkboard paint are also the perfect surfaces to write quick and welcoming messages for guests and friends who come a calling this winter.
I wish you all warm and cozy nights with family, friends, and good company this Christmas — And may your days be merry and bright throughout this holiday season.
