Regardless of the holiday you celebrate, gathering your family and friends for a wonderful evening of laughter, stories, and delicious fare seems to be in the plans for most people this time of year. Creating the perfect little dining spot doesn't take much time or dollars to pull off — just a few bright colours and festive accents, and your holiday tablescape awaits.
OPULENCE
Turquoise and deep jade colours are highly popular this season, and you can find bits and bunches of accents and decor everywhere for this rich and opulent tablescape: peacock feathers, beaded plate chargers, baubles laced with sequins and glitter in jewel tones... gather items in these shades for an elegant and grown up atmosphere, with an impressive smattering of sparkle!
CLEAR VASES
Nothing is easier or looks more chic than filling a grouping of clear vases and votives with multi-coloured balls, candies, or holiday coloured sands or stones. Place a bunch on display in the centre of your table, or in a group on a sideboard or server; a cute mix of candles and a handful of silver bells or cranberries tucked in along the bottom is another simple and charming way to play up your displays.
FRESH GREENERY
I love how sprigs and small boughs or garlands look nestled in amongst place settings — a china or crystal candy dish sitting atop a stack of neatly set plates can add that extra little touch when laid with holly, evergreen, and a red rose bud or amaryllis bloom.
PURPLE
If you're tired of the traditional reds and greens this year, why not head in a totally unexpected direction with purple, eggplant, plum, and lavender? Run a full length table runner in the cheery colour down the centre of your table, and accent it with napkins, dessert plates, and candles in various matching shades! The look is uplifting and inspiring, complete with little touches of silver and pewter.
TINY TREES
Bunching a number of miniature trees dipped in sparkles, wrapped in tinsel, or even fashioned from oversized pinecones along the length of your table, and mixed with a few accompanying ornaments adds a touch of the wintry outdoors to your festivities — my favorite look includes mixing numerous red and silver decorative trees on top of a black or silver table cloth: chic and fun all in one.
GOLD & WHITE
A simple white table cloth, white linens, dishes, and floating tea lights look amazing when paired with shades of gold and aged brass. So minimal and yet so polished, this combination works great with traditional and modern homes alike. Sherry glasses filled with white winter berries help to add that extra touch of merry and bright.
However you decide to entertain this year, add some sparkle and warmth with these simple and impressive touches. I want to wish you and yours a wonderful holiday season and a very Merry Christmas.
