I think it's safe to say Christmas is well on its way — the snow, colder temperatures, holiday tunes playing in the stores all hint that we're only a few weeks away from the holidays. I love decorating for winter, and last weekend I decked my front entry with some sparkle and cheer. Need some inspiration of your own? Why not give these festive ideas a try.
MONOGRAMS
I'm seeing these all over this season: highly embellished letters nestled into wreaths, strung on garlands, and as stand-alones dipped in sparkles. Simple and classic, find your moniker at a craft store, and go to town.
BAUBLE WREATHS
If the traditional boughs and branches don't grab your attention this year, I'm sure a brightly coloured wreath strung up with decorative baubles in mixed sizes will do the trick! Follow one of those easy tutorials on ehow.com, or play around with your own design — it's easy, and such a fun looking piece to dress up the front door.
PAINTED FRAMES
Maybe a wreath isn't on your wish list this year, and you're wanting a different take on the traditional door greeter: why not find a vintage frame and spray paint it a dashing red or dazzling green? Tie it up with an over sized bow, or group a mix of bells to hang inside.
WALL BASKETS
Line a fence, or flank columns at your porch with a fresh gathering of boughs and branches snuggled in a woven or wire mesh wall basket. You can pop in some sequined or frosted sprigs for a quick splash of Christmas colour.
GARLANDS
I'm not thinking of the traditional strung garlands, but larger and more graphic sashes! I love the look these twinkling snowflakes give to an open front porch — very simple and elegant, but unexpected all the same. You can even buy pre-made garlands and snip them to your desired lengths before hanging.
LANTERNS
Super cute and effortless to set up, a grouping of lanterns lining your front steps or by the front door will invite guests in all winter long. Candles look chic, but if you want a long-term functioning light source, consider using solar powered votives or outdoor globes nestles down inside for extra shimmering power.
I also love the look of cranberries wrapped along the lantern bases.
