With a new season comes a renewed optimism.

Spring is in the air and we are all ready to banish the dark, dreary décor in our homes and embrace pops of colour for a breath of fresh air. The time is finally here to open up the windows and liven up the house. Revive your home with furniture and accessories that will help bring spring into your space.

One of the best ways to bring life to your home is with fresh flowers and greenery. My absolute favourite plant is the Fiddle Leaf Fig.

With uniquely shaped leaves that can measure up to 12 inches across, the Fiddle Leaf Fig makes a statement in any room it graces. However, they are a little fickle and do require some love and attention, so for fellow ‘black thumbs,’ fresh cut flowers are always a favourite. Bringing the outdoors in can liven up a room like no other, and will work with any style.

Give your front entry some attention this spring and introduce a fun, cheeky door mat. Having a fun pattern or cute saying to welcome you home will brighten the day of everyone who enters. Switching up simple, inexpensive items in your home for a new season can make a big impact, and keeps décor from growing tiresome.

Wallpaper is making a huge impact in the world of design. It is such a fun and easy way to bring some life and personality to your space. Have fun playing with prints; you can go a little crazy and then simply balance a powerful print with natural hues in the rest of the room.

A few of my favourites are from Spoonflower — you can even make your own custom design into wallpaper or fabric. Try going outside of your comfort zone and play with different colour combinations. If you haven’t had a chance to utilize 2014’s colour of the year — "radiant orchid’ — mix it with navy and tangerine for a stand out colour scheme.

For the winter season, it is important to have lots of warm textured items such as thick throws and bulky area rugs. For spring, try introducing something bright and lacquered. You will achieve a pop of colour that is fresh, clean and modern.

Picking a piece of furniture with some concealed storage will also help get rid of the winter clutter and assist with some spring cleaning.

Switching out furniture pieces like entire couches can be expensive, and it is very easy to grow tired of a sky blue couch. A sky blue ottoman, however, adds a touch of colour without having to make a big commitment. They can even migrate around the house acting as an extra seating in the family room, at the foot of the bed in the master bedroom, or at the front entry. You can get creative and use pieces wherever they fit best in your home.

So put away those scarves, mitts and boots, and bring out the umbrellas, ponchos and sunglasses. Bring in those bright, fun colours and welcome the new season into your home.
