The friends of 26 Field Artillery/XII Manitoba Dragoons Military Museum Inc. held their 34th annual "Vimy Night Celebration and Fundraiser" on April 5 at the Brandon Armoury.
I had a chance to speak with Bill Pierson, who started volunteering with the museum in the 1990s and is now the longest serving and oldest volunteer. Bill said the fundraiser is held on the closest Saturday to the actual date when Vimy Ridge was taken.
Back when the fundraiser started, they initially served bullied beef and black bread, which was a staple in the First World War. This year, Double Happiness served some delicious Chinese food.
I also had a chance to chat with Faye Carkener, who said that her grandfather, Sgt. Nealle, was injured at Vimy, and that his son started the museum and was its original curator.
