The Royal Canadian Legion Branch Number #3 held its 14th annual Beef Pit Barbecue in late September.
The fundraiser was created 14 years ago by Blaine Wakefield and Ivan Baker Legion member Garry Andrews explained that the beef is cooked in a pit 20 feet long by four feet deep.
He said it is quite a process, as the coals are placed in the pit on Friday at 5p.m. Then at 6 a.m. Saturday, the beef is placed in the pit and covered. The beef is then taken out of the pit at 4 p.m. on Saturday, right on time to feed the 450 people who attended this year’s one of a kind fundraiser.
This delicious barbecue dinner was run by over 24 volunteers members and non-members of the Legion. A dance followed with music from Winnipeg’s Highway 6.
