As spring arrives after a very long cold winter, our thoughts turn to what we, the Nifty Needlers, have accomplished over the past several months.
The "Art of Quilting" show presented by the Nifty Needlers quilting group is being held this Saturday, April 26 at the wheelchair-accessible Riverview Curling Club at 420 Maryland Ave. in Brandon, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Please join us for a fabulous display of quilts, six vendors selling fabric and quilting supplies, a quilt raffle, door prizes along with a silent auction, to name some of the highlights of the day.
A light lunch including gluten-free items, desserts, coffee, and tea will be served.
Nifty Needlers was formed in 1993 by a group of like-minded women who wanted to promote and share their knowledge of quilting with others from Brandon and area.
Members meet every other Wednesday at Central Community Centre from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. from September to April.
Members display their completed projects in our "Show & Share" segment; demonstrations of quilting techniques, the latest quilting gadgets and, of course, a time to socialize and enjoy coffee and cookies are all parts of our meetings.
Our members have taken on various community service projects, including providing seasonal wall hangings for the Palliative Care Unit at Brandon Regional Health Centre, as well as quilts for Project Linus, a program that supplies quilts to children in the Westman area who have experienced some type of trauma or loss.
Members also work on various quilts that are donated to organizations in need of quilts in Brandon and area. Each year we also donate non-perishable items to the Christmas Cheer Board.
The proceeds from this Saturday’s quilt raffle at the "Art of Quilting" show will be donated to the Brandon Regional Health Centre Foundation.
