South African police officer allegedly dragged man in second such case in recent weeks

JOHANNESBURG - A South African police officer has been arrested for allegedly dragging a man from a police vehicle in the second such incident in recent weeks.

South Africa's police watchdog agency says the latest incident happened March 7 in Lomanyang in North West province and was reported to authorities this week. The agency says that after a dispute, a police officer allegedly grabbed a man and dragged him for 100 metres (330 feet) from a vehicle, causing foot injuries.

The officer was arrested and is to appear in court on Friday.

In a separate incident, nine South African police officers were charged with murdering a Mozambican taxi driver who was dragged from a police vehicle east of Johannesburg last month. Some onlookers filmed the event that sparked a national outcry.
