Chris Young drove in a pair of runs with a bases-loaded double in the bottom of the eighth inning to lead the Reston Rockets to a 5-2 Manitoba Senior Baseball League win over the Brandon Cloverleafs Sunday afternoon in Reston.
In Sunday’s other game, it was Oak River Dodgers 6, Brandon Houstons Marlins 2.
In Reston, Drew Haight followed up Young’s hit with a single that drove in two insurance runs.
Brody Pinkerton, who earned the win for throwing two scoreless innings, shut the door in the ninth to secure the victory.
Eric Truscott started the game for the Rockets (8-4) and held Brandon (5-4), which led 2-1 after seven innings, to a pair of runs on five hits while striking out six batters.
Jason Rae, who went 2-for-3 at the plate, drove in both runs for the Cloverleafs.
Zach Mayo took the loss after giving up five runs on eight hits in 7 2/3 innings. He struck out nine batters.
Dodgers 6 Marlins 2
At Oak River, Marc Simard went 1-for-3, drove in two runs and came around to score once as the Dodgers (3-8) moved out of the MSBL basement.
Ryan Shaw recorded two more RBIs for Oak River while Colin Bates came around to score twice.
Ty Paddock picked up the win after giving up two runs on eight hits in eight innings of work. He struck out six.
Shayne MacGranachan was tagged with the loss for giving up three runs — all in the third inning — on one hit and five walks while striking out five in four innings.
Eric Zamrycut and Chris Kennedy both had a pair of hits and drove in one run for the Marlins (2-7).
