Hey there, time traveller!

While the 10-year naming rights contract for Westman Place expired on Tuesday, the Keystone Centre has no immediate plans to remove the title sponsor from the arena.
The Keystone is still mulling its options for the 5,102-seat arena, so for the moment it will remain status quo.
“We did receive a very strong proposal from Westman Communications Group, so certainly we’re still in conversations with them,” Keystone Centre general managerJeffSchumacher said. “They were good partners, they’re still part of the conversation. We have been talking to other parties, and we will continue to do that.”
Schumacher said the Keystone board is working through the process to ensure the best possible deal is made for the facility.
“It’s not just about who’s going to write the largest cheque necessarily but making sure that everybody’s a fit for each other,” Schumacher said.
“Typically these are five- to 10-year agreements, so you really want to make sure that you’re very upfront and everybody knows … what they’re doing.”
In terms of a timeline, Schumacher said he hopes a new deal is reached within the next two to three months.
“We just have to do our due diligence, and take a look at any and all proposals and then come up with what makes the most sense for us,” he said. “Being responsible financially, and trying to balance our budget, and just being good overseers of the venue.”
On Tuesday, WCG chief marketing officer John Quail confirmed that “negotiations are continuing” between WCG and the Keystone Centre regarding the naming rights.
Last June, the Keystone Centre issued a request for expression of interest, to see if there are any organizations or individuals wishing to pursue title sponsorship of the arena, which is home of the Brandon Wheat Kings.
WCG purchased the naming rights on May 1, 2007, for a little more than $800,000, and ever since, the arena has been known as Westman Place.
The contract included annual payments to the Keystone Centre as well as donations for new technology to enhance the main arena.
The original contract was amended in 2008, which extended it to Oct. 31, 2017.
