60 YEARS AGOIvan Carisle of the Brandon Club thwarted a late bid by Orv Shaw of the Country Club to chalk up a slim 8- 7 victory and win the second round of the Club 14 play at the Country Club.

50 YEARS AGOBlaine Campbell scored twice and goaltender Jeff Gibbs blocked 37 shots to pace the Waskada Comets to a 5-3 SouthWest Hockey League victory over the Virden Oilers.

40 YEARS AGORick Fontaine scored twice to lead Aunt Sarah’s past City Centre Canadians 4-1 in a Shilo and District Men’s Basketball League game.

30 YEARS AGORandy Baron’s hat trick led the Carberry Plainsmen to a 6-3 triumph over the Killarney Shamrocks in the Tiger Hills Hockey League. Carl Dornn, Jamie Drysdale and Mike Anderson had the other Carberry goals.

20 YEARS AGO — Defending provincial champion Lois Fowler of Brandon has qualified for the 2005 Scott Tournament of Hearts Manitoba women’s curling championship. Fowler’s Wheat City team won its zone on Sunday to earn a spot in the Scott, going undefeated in the playdowns and securing the win by beating Dana Poole of Virden 10-1 in the Zone 3 B-side final.

10 YEARS AGODuncan Campbell has a new highlight from his rookie season in the Western Hockey League. Campbell scored the opening goal 1:59 into Brandon’s Teddy Bear Toss game, sending the Wheat Kings on their way to a 4-2 victory over the Swift Current Broncos at Westman Place.
