• 60 YEARS AGO — Agnes McDougall of Neepawa captured Zone D in the Manitoba women’s curling playoffs in Killarney and will head for Winnipeg next week for the provincials.
• 50 YEARS AGO — Mavis Curtis managed her best time ever at the annual high school track meet at the Minto Armoury, winning the freshmen women’s 400 metres in a time of 1:02, while Ruth McNeely won the varsity women’s 400 metres in 1:05 flat. Andrea Senchuk took 2:24.8 en route to top spot in the varsity women’s 800 metres.
• 40 YEARS AGO — Dave Bauman scored 40 points to lead the Knicks to a 66-46 victory over the Celtics as the Kam Lung-YMCA Masters Basketball League opened its inaugural season last night. Bill Meyers had 22 points for the Celtics.
• 20 YEARS AGO — Jody Anderson of Rivers-Elton and Landon White of Boissevain scored in a shootout to give the South a 7-5 triumph over the North in the Westman High School Hockey League all-star game.
• 10 YEARS AGO — Kirk Dechka and Eric Hildebrand both had a goal and an assist on Thursday night at Kinsmen Arena as the Vincent Massey Vikings beat the Virden Golden Bears 4-1 in the Westman High School Hockey League. Graham Wright and Keesin Richard supplied the other goals for Massey (13-3-1), while Brody Palmer had three helpers. Brandt Unger replied for Virden (7-8-0).
