Western Manitoba’s own buffalo roundup took place yesterday at Riding Mountain National Park. Seven yearling bison were separated from the park’s exhibition herd for shipment to a new home at the Swan Lake Indian Reserve ranch, 50 miles southeast of Brandon.
Lynette (Squeaky) Fromme, who dedicated her life to mass murderer Charles Manson, was found guilty of attempting to kill U.S. President Gerald Ford.

A man conducting a routine inspection of a construction site near St. Leon yesterday morning discovered a farmhouse that had burned to the ground, killing as many as three people. The home was occupied by Fernand Labossiere, 79, and his wife Rita, 74. Their son Remi, 44, had also been living with them for a while.
TEN YEARS AGO
With just over a month to go in its fall fundraising campaign, the United Way of Brandon and District is only about a third of the way to its $800,000 goal. Campaign chair Tara Ashcroft announced the fundraising progress Thursday and encouraged the public to support the cause.
After already welcoming 1,000 refugees from around the world this year, Manitoba is gearing up for a flood of up to 2,000 more in the next three months. “We’re getting organized,” Premier Greg Selinger said at a news conference Thursday where there was lot of talk about planning, but few details about the Syrian refugees’ arrival.
