40 YEARS AGO — Randy Slawson fired four goals to lead the Virden Oil Kings to a 16-3 pasting of the Deloraine Royals in South West Hockey League play. Randy Kalynuk and Brian Braybrook both added three goals for Virden.

30 YEARS AGO — Peter Schaefer scored twice as the Wheat Kings lost 7-6 to the Red Deer Rebels in WHL play. Kelly Smart, Justin Kurtz, Bobby Brown and Mike Leclerc also scored for Brandon.

20 YEARS AGO — Veteran defenceman Dennis Zboril of Minnedosa and forward Tim Rinn of Snowflake qualified for Team Canada at the 2006 world amputee hockey championship.

10 YEARS AGO — Cole Stanley had a goal and two assists as Vincent Massey pasted Neepawa 8-1 in Westman High School Hockey League action at Enns Brothers Arena. Christian Halls, Patrick Kondratiew, Brady Perreault, Brendan English, Rhett Bryant, Carter Sawchuk and Kale Bercier had the other goals.
