Official ceremonies will be held today to open the Bullock-Booth Eventide Home, located on the 1300 block of Princess Avenue. The former Ravenscourt apartment has been renovated at a cost of more than $24,000. It was given to the Salvation Army by A.E. Bullock of Vancouver, a former Brandon businessman.
SIXTY YEARS AGO
A kickoff dinner was held at the Prince Edward Hotel for the campaign for funds for the centennial auditorium to be built in Brandon.

Dr. Henry Morgentaler’s Winnipeg clinic has been turned down for approval as a facility that can perform therapeutic abortions, the college of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba announced yesterday.
The Brandon Fire Department has recently been trying out its $6,000 “state-of-the-art” water rescue equipment. This consists of a four-man Zodiac Cadet 310 inflatable boat, a 10-horsepower outboard motor and four immersion suits.
THIRTY YEARS AGO
Canada’s premier precision aerobatics team took to the Brandon skies yesterday as the feature performers of Air Show ’96 at the Brandon Municipal Airport.
Some Brandon school buses will be converted to cheaper natural gas this summer in an effort to beat high gas prices. Nineteen of the division’s 34 buses will be fitted with natural-gas cylinders, but will keep their gas tanks as backups.
TWENTY YEARS AGO
More than $100,000 in unsolicited donations from across the country have poured into Minnedosa to help rebuild the United Church building that was destroyed by fire earlier this year. The church has received nearly $110,000 so far.
Brandon’s downtown core received a $985,780 boost from Manitoba’s Neighbourhoods Alive! program yesterday. The province committed $235,780 in funding for nine of the city’s revitalization projects and is preparing to sign a new five-year agreement with the Brandon Neighbourhood Renewal Corporation to provide it with core operating funding of $150,000 per year.
TEN YEARS AGO
About 1,000 boisterous Brandon Wheat Kings fans packed the Keystone Centre’s UCT Pavilion on Saturday to welcome the team home and celebrate their WHL championship victory. The Wheat Kings won their first league championship in 20 years by defeating the Seattle Thunderbirds 8-4 on Friday night, wrapping up the best-of-seven series in five games.
