Nominations have closed for the Arthur-Virden byelections. Voters will have the choice of four names on their ballot when they go to the polls on Jan. 28.
In the running are:
Floyd Buhler (Liberal)
Doyle Piwniuk (PC)
Bob Senff (NDP)
Kate Storey (Green)
They'll be vying to fill the seat left vacant by former MLA Larry Maguire, who resigned to become the MP for Brandon–Souris.
Nominations closed at 1 p.m. on Monday for the byelection. Still open, however, are revisions to the voters list. The period to add, remove or correct names will end Jan. 16.
Eligible voters can go to the returning offices to submit changes or additions at the Arthur-Virden Returning Office, 590 Wellington Street E in Virden. Government issued photo identification or two other pieces of identification are required to make the changes.
A visit from an election official can be arranged if a voter can’t get to the office in person by calling the Arthur-Virden office at 204-748-4780 or 1-855-542-5116 or emailing ROArthur-Virden@elections.mb.ca.
A byelection will also be held the same day to fill a vacant seat in the riding of Morris.
