The government plans to invest more than $3 million into research and development on sustainable beef production.
Brandon-Souris MP Larry Maguire and Manitoba Agriculture Minister Ron Kostyshyn made the funding announcement Thursday afternoon.
"Our government supports a strong and vibrant Canadian beef sector and will continue to work hard to improve the industry’s competitiveness and sustainability by creating more opportunities for growth and prosperity for our producers," said Maguire, in a statement.
Over the next four years, they plan to launch a research program on beef and grassland managment, res-establish demonstration farms and create a committee to coordinate research.
Manitoba Beef Producers, a non-profit organization which represents more than 8000 farmers and ranchers will lead the project and contribute $100,000 per year in funding and support.
