With hot and hazy skies forecast today, there is a good chance of a severe thunderstorm this afternoon or early this evening.

Environment Canada says morning sunniness will gradually give way to increasing cloudiness this afternoon, as temperatures soar to 29ºC, with a UV Index of 8, which is very high.

Winds through the day are expected to be 30 km/h from the southwest, though there could be higher gusts as the storms move in late this afternoon. there's a 60 per cent chance of thunderstorms late this afternoon and early this evening, with the risk that it is severe.

Skies will clear after midnight as winds drop. Temperatures will dip to 14ºC overnight.

Friday will see a mix of sun and cloud, with westerly winds at 30 km/h expected through the day, and a high of 24ºC.

The weekend is a mixed bag, with sunny skies expected for Saturday, with a high of 25ºC, followed by a cool and cloudy Sunday, with a 40 per cent chance of showers and a high of just 19ºC.

Things begin to recover quickly on Monday, which will see a mix of sun and cloud and a high of 21ºC, followed by warmer temperatures through the workweek.

At this point, the prediction for Monday is sun and a high of 26ºC, then more sun on Tuesday and a high of 29ºC.

The normal high for this time of year is 26ºC; the normal low is 13ºC.

The hottest it's ever been on July 10 is 34.4ºC. The coolest was in 1951, when it wa 3.3ºC.
