The president of the Brandon Labour Council says he wants to be the NDP candidate for Brandon–Souris.
Cory Szczepanski is expected to officially announce that he is running for the nomination at a press conference on Friday.

Szczepanski works as a welder at Behlen in Brandon, and is active in the labour movement.
He's the first to announce that he is running for the NDP nomination.
Three people have said they are running for the Conservative Party nomination. No one has come forward yet for the Liberals.
The Brandon–Souris riding will be left vacant when Conservative MP Merv Tweed officially steps down on Aug. 31. No byelection date has been set.
Szczepanski's press conference is set for Friday, Aug. 30 at noon.
