It's been a long time since April, but some people are still falling for four-month-old April Fools Day jokes.
An article posted back then by the student newspaper at Brandon University got new legs today, when people who failed to notice its publication date posted links to it on social media sites like Facebook and Twitter.
The article, published by The Quill on April 2 for their annual spoof edition "The Swill", purports to report that famed actress Meryl Streep is coming to teach drama at Brandon University.
Of course, as the university itself later confirmed, there are no such plans.
The satirical article, written in a deadpan style, appears alongside another fictional piece that congratulates BU drama students for a near sweep at the 2013 Oscars as well as one that claimed the campus bar will expand to swallow up all other businesses on campus. All the fake articles have since been updated to make it clear that they are untrue.
But before the clarifications, the Meryl Streep rumour was making the rounds. At least two national reporters based in Ottawa tweeted it out.
