Two students from Assiniboine Community College hoisted first place and took home $5000 at the Manitoba New Venture Championships earlier this month.
“We’ve been sleeping, breathing and eating this business plan since September, so we were pretty well-versed in what we were presenting,” Will Turner said. Their plan looked at repurposing an existing, unused railway line that runs from Rathwell to Nesbitt.
Matt Tolton and Will Turner faced off against 11 teams from the University of Manitoba, Red River College and Brandon University. Tolton and Turner were the first ACC students to participate in the business competition.
After graduating later this year, Turner plans to return to the family farm around Boissevain and Tolton will be working in Saskatchewan for the summer.
