A 53-year-old man from Birch River was arrested in the middle of the night after allegedly trying to steal vacuum cleaners from a business in the 1800 block of 18th Street North.

Police said they arrested the accused shortly before 12:30 a.m. after an alarm sounded at the business. Officers said he was spotted hiding behind boxes. A crowbar was found at the scene that was allegedly used to gain access to the building. A vehicle used by the man was located nearby, containing more break-in tools.

The accused was expected to appear in court on Thursday.
