Officers arrested the 24-year-old man in the 400 block of Eighth Street and found a Cooey 12-gauge sawed-off shotgun in the discarded backpack. The gun had the serial number ground off.
Police charged the man with carrying a concealed weapon, unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon, possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized, possession of a prohibited firearm with ammunition, possession of a firearm, possession of a restricted weapon obtained by crime, tampering with a firearm serial number, possession of a weapon contrary to a probation order, two counts of failing to comply with a release order and failing to comply with a probation order.
He was scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday.
