Arrests made, guns seized after business shot at

Two men were arrested Thursday evening after a business on the 1700 block of Middleton Avenue was shot at, injuring no one but breaking a window.

Brandon police say they received a report of the shooting around 8:15 p.m. Their investigation revealed that a young man in a vehicle had allegedly fired a long gun at the window before leaving in a vehicle.

That vehicle was tracked down by officers on the 400 block of 12th Street and seized.

A Sun staffer saw police next to a taxi that had pulled over in the southbound lanes of First Street, just north of the First Street Bridge, around 8:30 p.m. The officers were communicating with someone through their vehicle’s loudspeaker.

One of the suspects from the shooting was a passenger in that taxi, a Brandon Police Service spokesperson said Friday.

Two men, aged 23 and 48, were arrested and charged with careless use of a firearm and other firearm-related charges. They were due to appear in court on Friday.

Police also recovered two sawed-off shotguns.

Brandon police arrested a 48-year-old man wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for violent offences on Friday afternoon.

The arrest took place without incident around 3:22 p.m. on the 1000 block of 12th Street, a media release said.

A Brandon Police Service spokesperson told the Sun that the man is facing 10 assault charges, five counts of assault causing bodily harm, five counts of failing to comply with a probation order, four counts of disobeying a court order, three counts of criminal harassment, forcible confinement, distributing intimate images and uttering threats.

The man was due to appear in court on Friday.

BCC Inmate arrested on B.C. warrant

A 52-year-old man currently in custody at Brandon Correctional Centre was arrested by police on Thursday afternoon in relation to an arrest warrant issued for him in British Columbia.

Brandon Police Service did not disclose his charges, but said he would be appearing in court on Friday and that the Vancouver Police Department was arranging his transportation to B.C.
