Public hearings for two bylaw amendments that would increase the development cost charges levied on developers in Brandon have been set for Monday, Dec. 16, the city announced Thursday.

The charges are contributions toward infrastructure that will benefit developments.

They were first implemented in 2019 but have not been substantially updated except for minor inflationary adjustments since.

One of the amendments would implement new rates for development cost charges for transportation and land drainage network infrastructure while the other handles charges for water and wastewater infrastructure.

The former had first reading at this week’s Brandon City Council meeting, while the latter will be discussed at the Nov. 18 meeting.

Once the latter bylaw receives its second reading and has its public hearing, it will need to be given final approval by the Public Utilities Board.

The hearings will take place as part of the regularly scheduled council meeting on Dec. 16, starting at 7 p.m. on the second floor of Brandon City Hall. More information on the proposed amendments can be found online at brandon.ca/permits-applications/development-charges.
