The Royal Canadian Air Force is conducting a flyby over the City of Brandon on Canada Day.

The Tuesday flyover will happen between 1 and 2 p.m., overtop where Canada Day festivities are planned at the Riverbank Discovery Centre.

It will be conducted by a CT-142 Dash-8, which is a plane nicknamed “Gonzo” because of the equipment stored in its long nose.

The flybys are dependent on weather and flying conditions.

“Flybys conducted by Royal Canadian Air Force aircraft are carefully planned and closely controlled for public safety,” reads part of a press release from the RCAF.

The Brandon flyover is one of several across 18 different communities in Canada. It is the only flyby in Manitoba.

Planes will fly at a minimum of 500 feet over the tallest building in its path.
