SEXUAL ASSAULT CHARGE

Brandon Police Service arrested a man after an investigation into a sexual assault reported late last month.

BPS received a report on Sept. 29 that a 17-year-old girl had been sexually assaulted and alleged that the man had also slapped her, police said in a news release Thursday.

Police said the suspect and victim knew each other.

After an investigation, a 22-year-old man surrendered at BPS headquarters on Wednesday night and was subsequently arrested and charged with sexual assault and assault, police said.

BPS released the man on an undertaking, and he is scheduled to appear in court in December.

BUSINESS BREAK-IN

Brandon Police Service is investigating a break and enter at a business on Wednesday in which roughly $1,000 was stolen.

A security company reported an alarm at a business on the 1500 block of Park Avenue at around 10:30 p.m.

When BPS members arrived at the business, they saw broken glass and an insecure door, police said in a news release Thursday.

Police said it was determined that around $1,000 was stolen.

BPS urges anyone with information about the break-in to contact the station’s non-emergency line at 204-729-2345 or Crime Stoppers at 204-727-TIPS (8477).
