There are still 53 Brandon properties on the city’s tax arrears list.
Owners of those properties owe more than $625,000 in 2016 and 2017 back taxes. The 2016 portion must be paid by Oct. 18 or owners could lose their properties in a public auction.
The city charges 1.25 per cent per month in interest, so the longer the bill is unpaid, the more an owner will owe. Administrative costs can also add up to more than $700.
An updated tax arrears list is posted weekly on the city’s website, brandon.ca.
