Errol Black is shown standing in 2009 at the site of the park at First Street and Rosser Avenue East. That park will now be named after him.
Permanent signs won't be installed until this summer, but a formal dedication ceremony will be held on Friday to name the park at First Street and Rosser Avenue after longtime city councillor Errol Black.
Black, along with family members, community colleagues and friends, is expected to be in attendance at the ceremony, which will be held at 2 p.m.
A petition drafted earlier this year originally called for the park to be named after David Weiss, who owned a prominent business on that land. However, city council instead decided to name the park after Black, a longtime Riverview councillor and Brandon University professor emeritus.
The public is welcome to attend the brief ceremony, which will see the unveiling of some temporary signage. However, there will be no seating available.
