Human remains found in a wooded area in the RM of Cornwallis have been identified as Jason Warren Cathcart Riley, who was last seen in Brandon on May 8.
A hunter in the area discovered the remains close to Highway 1A on Oct. 26.
The cause of death has yet to be determined.
Riley, 46, worked as a semi driver at Goodon Industries, a post-frame construction company in Boissevain.
Riley was last seen at Superstore in Brandon, and surveillance video from the store confirmed Riley was there that day. He then left Superstore and walked north toward the Manitoba Hydro building.
At the time, Brandon police were trying to access security cameras in the area to determine where Riley went from there.
Volunteers from Deloraine and Brandon, as well as co-workers, set up searches along the riverbank in May following his disappearance, and missing-person posters were put up all around Brandon.
Co-workers and family friends told The Brandon Sun at the time that everything seemed normal the last time they saw Riley, who they called a "nice fella" with "a great, dry sense of humour."
Before his disappearance, Riley did indicate to a co-worker he wasn’t feeling well and couldn’t drive his load out.
Blue Hills RCMP and the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office continue to investigate.
