Charges against a long-standing Brandon Police officer were stayed Monday morning in Brandon provincial court.
Const. Shane Stephenson was charged attempting to obstruct justice after an incident with the son of another BPS officer at The Great Western Roadhouse on Nov. 22, 2014.
The Crown stayed the charges after Judge Murray Thompson deemed Stephenson’s statement inadmissible evidence due to “severe breach” of his Charter rights.
Earlier this month, charges against Sgt. Dallas Lockhart, who was also facing obstruction of justice charges related to the incident, were also stayed.
