Police arrested a 17-year-old boy early Friday morning after he allegedly started four separate fires on multiple properties.
Officers were notified of the first fire at approximately 3:40 a.m. and the last fire at 4:15 a.m. — all within a 10-block radius.
Sheds, trees, a dumpster and a porch were all set ablaze, forcing multiple homes to be evacuated as a precaution.
All fires were successfully extinguished, and there were no reported injuries.
A 17-year-old boy on a bike was arrested near one of the scenes. He was charged with arson with disregard for human life, arson causing damage to property and possession of incendiary material and was released to appear in court in July.
At this time, police aren’t looking for any other suspects, however the investigation is still ongoing.
Police and the Office of the Fire Commissioner were still on scene at various locations Friday morning, where the extent of the damage was more clear visible.
A duplex in the 100 block of Third Street stands with significant damage along the left hand side of the home up into the roof, with melted and charred debris spread around the backyard.
The siding of home on Russell Street is now curling and falling off in areas from the heat and flames of a shed burned to the ground in the backyard.
